It’s the start of the new year and many Xbox owners are wondering about what’s in store for their favorite system in 2023. If a reply on Twitter from Windows Central’s Jez Corden is any indication, that info could be coming soon in the form of an Xbox Games Showcase.
Replying to a thread about Microsoft’s first-party releases and fans not seeing anything for a while, Corden said that people should “give it a few days”. That seemingly indicates that within the next week or so Microsoft could be set to announce an event or details on some upcoming games for the Xbox Series X|S.
Corden did make another post hours later claiming that he “got the info wrong”.
“Sorry guys, got the info wrong!!! the big Xbox announcement this week was Oreos,” he said.
However, rumors of an Xbox Games Showcase for early 2023 have been making the rounds since mid-December when Xbox Games Marketing Vice President Aaron Greenberg tweeted that fans wouldn’t have to “wait too long” to hear from the company.
“We have a lot planned to show and share about an incredibly exciting year ahead for 2023,” he said on December 9. “Appreciate folks are eager to learn and see more. Timing is always key, but don’t worry you will not have to wait too long for what’s next from us.”
As far as what games could be shown at this rumored Xbox Games Showcase, it could be expected that titles like Forza Horizon and Starfield would have a big presence. It also wouldn’t surprise anyone if Microsoft decided to reveal release dates for other upcoming Xbox titles to continue to build up the hype for its platform that has admittedly struggled to gain interest from those looking for first-party games.
Update: Monday morning, Greenberg continued to hype up the rumors with a Tweet saying “This should be a fun week”.
