The Witcher 3’s Gwent Can Now Be Bought For Real, But I’ve Had It For 10 Years

Pre-orders have appeared online for Gwent: The Legendary Card Game, a fan-favorite minigame pulled from the heart of 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It’s only $45 and offers a sizeable assortment of items to support games featuring up to five players and has been marketed as the first physical adaptation, but I’m confused, as I was playing physical Gwent a decade ago.

Gwent: The Legendary Card Game includes more than 400 cards, tokens, gems, a board, and everything else you need to play Geralt of Rivia’s favorite card game.

Care For a Round of Gwent?

Gwent made up a brilliant side escape in 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, challenging players to travel the landscape and find people to duel in the popular card game. It became a conquest for some, and like other minigames, fans clamoured for a physical release of the card sets.

It took this long, but a physical adaptation is finally here for the masses, and it’s available to pre-order now on Amazon for just $45 (£44.99 in the United Kingdom).

The pack has been created hand-in-hand with CD Projekt Red to honor the 10th anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which came around earlier this year. With multiple game modes, an accessible learning curve, and some gorgeous art on the cards, Gwent will make for an easy purchase for any Witcher fan.

I was playing Gwent with a physical set in 2015, though. I don’t know why it has taken you all so long to catch up!

When The Witcher 3 came out, the most stunning collector’s edition ever marketed came with it, and it was a day-one purchase for me. It was pricey, but worth every penny, boasting a hand-painted statue that still sits on my shelf today, a collector’s box signed by the entire dev team, a massive art book, a cloth map, a Witcher medallion, and much more.

Phenomenal stuff.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt collector’s edition also came with two physical Gwent decks, taken straight from the game. I’ve taken a look at Gwent: The Legendary Card Game and can confirm that some of the art is identical, given that it all replicates the 2015 game.

CDPR went on to release the same decks as standalone inclusions for the game’s expansions, particularly Hearts of Stone. Ultimately, this is a physical rendition of the digital game that was released a few years back that offered Gwent standalone, but support for that ended a while ago.

So, despite this being the ‘first physical adaptation of Gwent’, some of us have been playing physical Gwent for many years.

That being said, will you buy this new card game? Let me know on the Insider Gaming forum.
