We’ve spent a lot of time eagerly awaiting the next Assassin’s Creed title, with numerous teases and reveals occurring over the past few months. It’s finally here, with the first cinematic trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. In it, we get a firsthand look at Naoe and Yasuke, the two playable characters in this samurai story set in Feudal Japan!
Who Are Naoe and Yasuke in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
From what we’ve gathered thus far, the two playable characters—Naoe and Yasuke—will offer two unique playstyles throughout the main story. Yasuke, who is based on a real-life samurai of the same name, focuses on strength to battle opponents head-on. Naoe, on the other hand, is shinobi—a ninja—who utilizes stealth and gadgetry to gain the upper hand.
While this is only a cinematic trailer without any gameplay, we still receive a firsthand look at their overall style. Yasuke utilizes a large studded club, slamming it into foes with reckless abandon. Naoe moves quickly, attacking with lightning speed from the flanks or above.

Is Assassin’s Creed Shadows an RPG or Stealth Game?
It’s still unclear precisely which path Assassin’s Creed Shadows will follow, whether it’s more of an RPG like Odyssey and Valhalla or stealth-oriented, like Mirage and the original franchise. We’ve heard rumors that it follows the former—an open-world RPG style—rather than solely stealth-oriented. However, the inclusion of Naoe indicates Ubisoft may experiment with a hybrid style of gameplay with Assassin’s Creed Shadows by merging the two styles.
