Subnautica 2 is one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year and we’re edging ever closer to an early access release, so we’ve gathered all the information you need.
Surprise layoffs at Unknown Worlds Entertainment pushed by parent company Krafton raised concern on the status of the game, though it all looks to remain on course, with one of those ousted stating that the game is “ready for early access.“
With hopes that the early access period for Subnautica 2 is on the horizon, we’ve got all the details we have so far.
When is Subnautica 2 Early Access?
An exact date for Subnautica 2 Early Access is yet to be announced, with the only details so far coming in October 2024 stated a release at some point in 2025.
A cinematic trailer shown at the Xbox Partner Preview revealed Subnautica 2, alongside key details including the introduction of co-op, but a broad 2025 window was stated for Early Access.
As shown on Steam, a planned release for 2025 remains, and a community letter was posted following layoffs at Unknown Worlds Entertainment that stated that “an update to our Early schedule and more information will be coming soon.” No time frame was provided for when such news would be shared.
It still sounds like things are on course for Subnautica 2 to release into Early Access later in 2025, but, for now, we’ll have to be patient waiting for specific news.
Can You Sign up For Subnautica 2 Early Access?
There is no currently a direct sign-up option for Subnautica 2 Early Access, and any news of such availability would likely come in an update direct from Unknown Labs.
You can, however, add the game to your wishlist on Steam and Xbox. Currently, there is no pre-order option available, nor is there any pricing details for Subnautica 2, so there’s no option to purchase the game outright so far.
Those with an Xbox Game Pass subscription don’t need to worry about any of this, though, as Subnautica 2’s Early Access will be available day one on both console and PC. Further details are due to be announced closer to the time, but we already know this for certain following the trailer at last year’s Xbox Partner Preview.
Subnautica later released on other platforms, including PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, but no details on additional platform releases have been shared yet.
