Can you believe Resident Evil Village launched in 2021? In 2023, we received Resident Evil 4 Remake, which led many to believe Capcom intends to remake or remaster the entire franchise moving forward. It’s looking more likely now, but what is the next Resident Evil remake on the slate?
What is the Next Resident Evil Remake?
According to reports, it’s not Resident Evil 1 Remake or Resident Evil 5 Remake on the way next, but instead Resident Evil 0 Remake and Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake currently in development. Everyone in the community was so sure Capcom would remake the fifth entry, following the immense success of Resident Evil 4, and then return to the first game.
Resident Evil 1 previously received the remake/remaster treatment, but it kept the tank controls that feel archaic and unwieldy. If Capcom provides a faithful remake in the same style as recent titles, they’ll have a gold mine.
The same goes for 0 and Code Veronica, which have become fan favorites.
Either way, more Resident Evil is never a bad thing!

What is the Next Main Resident Evil Game?
The next mainline entry in the long-running Resident Evil franchise, following the more action-oriented approach in Village, is Resident Evil 9. We’ve heard rumors it’ll take place on an island location with a more open-world approach, but there’s no official release date or window yet.
Unfortunately, the only information we have about Resident Evil 9 is that it has been pushed back to 2025 or 2026. Previously, it was thought that the ninth mainline entry would receive an announcement this summer, but that’s appearing less likely. It’s still within the realm of possibility, but we’ll have to wait patiently and see!
