Toys For Bob may be Teasing a Spyro Return

Spyro the Dragon may be making a return in 2023. Gaming’s most beloved adolescent dragon made a surprise appearance this week in social media posts by Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time developer Toys For Bob.

The developer’s official Twitter account shared the message: “Big moves and BIG MOOD for 2023 #LifeatTFB” alongside a collage image of photos, logos, and inspirational concepts for the year to come.

While the bulk of the image accompanying the tweet is dedicated to pictures of the development team, two video games can be spotted in the left-hand corners. Call of Duty’s Ghost is clearly visible in the bottom left of the image, but the top left holds a far more interesting addition: a nod to Spyro the Dragon’s 25th anniversary.

The original Spyro the Dragon was released for the PlayStation in 1998, making 2023 a quarter century since the dragon first debuted. With Spyro hidden in the corner of the image, it’s clear that Toys For Bob wanted to leave a playful hint toward some form of Spyro announcement in 2023. The question is, what?

At The Game Awards 2022, Toys For Bob unveiled a new multiplayer Crash Bandicoot spinoff called Crash Team Rumble. The game sees teams of four competing to collect and bank Wumpa Fruit while fighting off their rivals.

The safest answer to Spyro’s 25th anniversary return could be that he will make an appearance as a guest character in Crash Team Rumble. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from clamoring for any sign of an announcement for Spyro 4, or even a remaster of the late 2000s The Legend of Spyro trilogy.

Fans have also been quick to note that Spyro appears over what looks like a binary sequence of ones and zeroes, different segments of which are visible in the images shared to Toys For Bob’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

How would you like to see the Spyro 25th anniversary celebrated?
