During the Summer Game Fest showcase, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando was revealed, an epic zombie-slaying cooperative title that’s fuelled by high-octane combat, retro vibes, and – judging from the short trailer – a killer soundtrack.
Most recently, we heard John Carpenter’s name in reference to a potential Dead Space movie, but it seems he’s getting involved in the gaming industry in a totally different way right now – and it’s with Toxic Commando.
Slay Zombies, And Look Good Doing It
For some, Toxic Commando looks like the stock-standard zombie-slaying action we’ve seen time and time again – it looks as though it’ll be a cooperative title that gives players plenty of weapons to use to cut down hordes of zombies – we’ve seen that, right?
Personally, I love a game like that – so this already sits firmly on my radar. It’s going to release in 2024, and for those eager to secure some mindless zombie-killing adventures, it’ll be a must-buy.
Driven by Saber Interactive’s ‘Swarm’ engine, there will be hundreds – if not thousands – of zombies on-screen at any one time, and with an assortment of arms including mounted weapons, explosives, launchers, and traditional, ballistic weaponry, it’ll be the responsibility of up to four players to do away with them as swiftly and violently as possible.
In a statement, John Carpenter spoke about his all-new game:
It’s exciting to be collaborating on a new video game with Focus and Saber. Look, I really like shooting zombies. They keep telling me that they’re called ’the infected.’ Please. They’re ghouls, dude. They blow up real good and there are a ton of them. People are going to love this game.
What do you think? Do you need another zombie-slaying game on your roster? There will be a closed beta phase dropping before the game is released next year if you want to get hands-on.
