The Witcher live-action series at Netflix will officially add Laurence Fishburne as Regis in season 4, according to a new post on Twitter today.
Regis was a mysterious vampire in the universe of The Witcher. They were the barber-surgeon of Dillingen in their earlier life, and normally have a much longer name.
The casting decision has resulted in some mixed responses. However, criticism often points to other depictions of Regis, rather than Fishburne himself.
Fans will recognize Laurence Fishburne for many powerful performances, including both dramatic and pop culture turnouts like The Matrix.
Fishburne most recently made a big impression in pop culture with their enigmatic role as the Bowery King in the acclaimed John Wick series.
So, Fishburne surely has the range and intensity to bring Regis’ combination of power and wisdom to life.
Adding big name actors like Laurence Fishburne may help repair some interest in the live-action Witcher series.
Fans have been generally annoyed with the show, lately. It has struggled a bit since Henry Cavill departed the series as the lead character, Geralt of Rivia.
Many fans agreed that Cavill did an excellent job at playing the role. But Liam Hemsworth has since replaced Cavill for Season 4.
As a result, some feel especially critical about the upcoming season overall, regardless of other relevant casting decisions.
This is much tougher to overcome compared to The Last Of Us, which has consistently earned goodwill from fans. It also recently ramped up the cast, adding Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Isabela Merced as Dina this week.
Meanwhile, The Witcher game series continues to expand just fine. CD Projekt Red reportedly has nearly half the company working on The Witcher 4.
