In a new post on Twitter, the official feed for The Witcher 3 confirmed that a REDkit mod editor will roll out on May 21, 2024.
The editor will be available for free to all players who own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC. Today’s post adds that the editor is “extensive” and “based on the game’s engine.”
The dev team previously announced this editor back in November 2023 without a release window. Players can wishlist the REDkit now across Steam, GOG, and EGS.
The Witcher 3 REDkit’s Steam page goes into further detail about its range of features. Users can create “new quests, items, weapons, and characters to developing animations, entire storylines, and new territories.”
The page suggests that players will have access to the same tools that CD Projekt Red used to develop the game. However, a small disclaimer still warns that “external tools” might be necessary to fully resemble the scope of the original creators.
The community already allowed The Witcher 3 engagement to thrive for years, but an official tool is a nice gesture. The game originally launched nearly a decade ago. But by May 2023, The Witcher 3 had sold more than 50 million copies.
Fans can still request access for the REDkit playtest on Steam. A Steam post in April explained that “playtest access will be distributed in batches.”
CD Projekt Red is currently working hard on Project Orion. It recently expanded the Project Orion team in February 2024.
