The Subminer Plunges Deep Into a New Trailer at the 28 Games Later Showcase

The Subminer is an upcoming roguelite with some seriously icky vibes, especially for those who hate deep water and the things that lurk beneath the waves. As a game, it’s promising to be something stellar, but it will be a chilling title for anyone who is made uncomfortable by dark caves, underwater terrors, and apocalyptic wastelands.

During Insider Gaming’s 28 Games Later Showcase, The Subminer’s developer, Tech Turtles, stepped up and provided a new trailer. If you’ve seen it and fancy knowing a bit more about this upcoming atmospheric exploration game, you’ll want to read on.

What is The Subminer?

Imagine you’re in a tiny submarine packed with gadgets, diving deep under an icy ocean with a desire to plunder harrowing caves and face off against whatever gnarly terrors lurk within. It’s about farming resources, upgrading your base, surviving against the elements, and always making sure to make it back alive… That last part is very important.

But ultimately, The Subminer is a roguelike, so the death-loop mechanic is part and parcel of the experience. This is a survival-exploration game that encourages you to scour an alien ocean in search of riches and resources, but every step of the way, you’re hunted, threatened, and challenged by the world around you.

Key Features of The Subminer

  • Unforgiving Gameplay Loop: The Subminer is tough, and that’s something the developers wear on their sleeves. You’ll participate in fast-paced and hard-as-nails combat sequences, and as they’ve promised, you’ll have ‘mere seconds’ to decide if you want to engage an enemy or pack up and try to escape the fight.
  • Roguelike Exploration: You’re diving into some procedurally-generated cave systems in The Subminer, so you can be sure that no two runs are ever the same. It’s not a map you can learn or get familiar with, which increases the sense of unease you’re guaranteed to always feel.
  • Meat on the Bones: The Subminer has boss battles, rescue missions, side quests, and the core story itself, and at every opportunity, you’re learning more, uncovering secrets, and discovering more mysteries that need a sharp mind to understand them.

The Studio Behind The Subminer

The Subminer is brought to you by Tech Turtles, a small studio that has made this survival-horror roguelike their debut game. This is an indie studio that hails from Turkiye, and in their own words, they’ve quit their jobs to ‘pursue what they truly care about.’

And what they truly care about is creating an immersive, innovative, and somewhat harrowing deep-sea exploration roguelike!
