Everybody’s favourite little blue hedgehog, Sonic, has been murdered. This is no April Fool’s joke, however, as SEGA seriously took to Twitter to announce the release of a free-to-play visual novel depicting the scenario. If you never thought that Sonic would be the (dead) star of a murder mystery, it is time for you to think again.
While it initially seemed to be a prank for the well-loved April holiday, the team confirmed that the game had genuinely released on Steam underneath their original Tweet. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog has already received an average “Very Positive” rating, taking over the Steam libraries of unsuspecting fans.
The game features familiar characters from the franchise and involves much less familiar mechanics. Players will need to question said characters to try and figure out what happened to Sonic. It is the first day of the main character’s job on the Mirage Express train, so the entire plot seems adjacent to well-known murder mysteries.
Players can add the game to their libraries or install it immediately since there is no early access period. Amidst all of the serious gaming news, from positive announcements like Tears of the Kingdom to the less-positive such as E3’s cancellation, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog comes as a pleasant surprise.
SEGA has shocked the online world with one of the most unique gaming pranks April Fool’s Day has seen by actually releasing the ridiculous title they were claiming to. Pick up the humourous hand-drawn mystery on Steam now, or have a look around Insider Gaming for more gaming guides and news.
