In a new post on Twitter, Geoff Keighley announced that Summer Game Fest 2024 will stream live on June 7th from YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
The show will begin at 2 PM pacific time, 5 PM eastern. Fans will be able to catch the showcase across multiple platforms, including both YouTube and Twitch. Public tickets will also go on sale beginning on May 7th at 9 AM pacific time.
As reported by IGN, the event will feature “new video game announcements, first-looks and trailers”. There will also be “other livestreams and events”, though the event hosts did not confirm the nature of these additions.
The Summer Game Fest is a new tradition for gamers that previously tuned in for E3. The Entertainment Software Association, or ESA, announced last December that E3 is officially closed.
The ESA added that “we are continuing to explore how we can evolve it to best serve the video game industry and are evaluating every aspect of the event, from format to location”. So, E3 could make a return sooner or later.
Geoff Keighley issued a response to the event’s surprising shutdown, stating that E3 “sort of killed itself in a way”.
However, Keighley did receive some backlash following The Game Awards 2023. Fans were divided after Keighley did not officially address the industry’s mass layoffs.
Layoffs continue to hit the industry. Last month, PlayStation announced plans to reduce its global workforce by 900 employees. Sea of Thieves co-developer Radical Forge also faced layoffs just weeks ago.
The Game Awards 2023 also divided fans over its presentation. Some viewers feel it did not focus enough on the right type of content.
