Stop Killing Games Joins PlayStation Digital Monopoly Lawsuit

Stop Killing Games and DoesItPlay? have announced they are joining the lawsuit against Sony over PlayStation’s digital monopoly.

For those who may not know, Stop Killing Games is a movement that has gained significant attention recently. Its goal is to challenge the legality of video game publishers destroying games that have already been sold to consumers. Additionally, DoesItPlay? is organizing a PlayStation blackout towards the end of August to protest Sony’s decision to cease the production of physical discs. These two groups have now united to join a lawsuit in the Netherlands.

Stop Killing Games and DoesItPlay? Say ‘It’s Time to Sue Sony, Join Us”

Stop Killing Games and DoesItPlay? have announced their support for Stichting Massaschade & Consument (SM&C) in its lawsuit against Sony regarding the company’s complete control over PlayStation Store pricing. They expressed their commitment to fully backing SM&C’s case in the Dutch court. Additionally, they have shared a video from SM&C titled “It’s time to sue Sony, join us.”

The video itself talks about how physical games are becoming cheaper than digital games and the reasoning behind it. The video states that Sony has a monopoly on all digital game sales on PlayStation, and the system has been designed to buy these digital games from Sony’s own store. Once the decision to stop physical discs in 2028 comes into play, players will lose the choice of opting for physical too.

That decision will also allow PlayStation to shut out the competition, leading to customers paying more, which is claimed to be up to 47% more on average. Hence, the company is taking legal action for fair game prices, which doesn’t have the ‘Sony tax’ and the arrival of some alternatives to Sony’s digital store. The lawsuit has also demanded that Sony repay the money made from Dutch gamers.
