A tweet posted by Bethesda support on Twitter has suggested that Starfield might not have a physical disc and be digital only.
According to the now-deleted tweet, “All physical editions include a code for the chosen platform. There are no physical discs.”
Fans have hoped that the deletion of the tweet suggests it was a mistake, but so far the Bethesda Support account hasn’t given additional clarification. Earlier this month, the Spanish Bethesda Twitter account revealed, “It depends on the edition. For example, the standard has a disc, while the Constellation Edition has a code engraved on a collector’s item, which you can see in the image.” Insider Gaming has reached out to Bethesda for clarification.
Starfield is set to be Betthesda’s most ambitious game to date, with the space exploration game having around 1000 planets to explore. Despite only 10% of the planets having some form of life, Todd Howard highlighted that almost every planet is more or less unique – Bethesda has worked with temperature, radiation levels, weather effects, gravity, and impacts on a player when constructing these planets.
Starfield is scheduled to be released on September 6, 2023, for Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S.
