Is a Stardew Valley movie on the horizon? If it was up to the game’s creator, it could be under the right circumstances.
In a recent interview with IGN, Eric Barone, also known as ConcernedApe, said that he’d be open to making a movie based on the game only if David Lynch or Studio Ghibli were involved in it.
“If Studio Ghibli approached me, I would probably say okay, let’s do it,” he told the outlet. “If David Lynch approached me and wanted to make a Stardew Valley movie, I would say go ahead, just do it.”

He added that it’s “risky” when you give characters voices as well as having them freely move around.
“I’m just too protective of my IP to just hand it over to someone and say go ahead and make a Stardew Valley movie or whatever,” he said. “I would need to be closely involved with that.”
Right now, Barone is focused on the upcoming Stardew Valley: Festival of Seasons concert event that begins touring in 2024. He’s also working on his next game, Haunted Chocolatier.
The latest video game to get a movie, Five Nights at Freddy’s, broke records for the biggest opening weekend for a live-action video game film as well as became the third-best opening for a horror movie ever.
