Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is Getting a PS4/Xbox One Release, Says EA

During the recent EA Earnings Call, CEO Andrew Wilson revealed that EA will be releasing a PS4 / Xbox One version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

In the opening statements from CEO Andrew Wilson during the call, Wilson outlined Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s huge critical acclaim and commercial success. Wilson said, “Thanks to the strength of this legendary franchise and community demand, our development team has committed to bringing this Jedi experience to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.” (Transcript via Key to Gaming).

No details on how long it will take for the past-generation console version to be released, but given that a release date hasn’t been set, we shouldn’t expect it anytime soon.

The news has brought some criticism online though, with fans who purchased the current generation versions expressing that the game still has a series of bugs and performance issues. Despite the game being a commercial success and receiving “generally favorable” reviews from critics, there were some problems. Many reviewers noted performance problems with the PC version with frames dipping as low as 15 frames per second, which resulted in Respawn Entertainment releasing one of those ever-so-familiar apology posts on Twitter.

‘We are aware that Star Wars JedI: Survivor isn’t performing to our standards for a percentage of our PC players, in particular those with high-end machines or certain specific configurations,’ the company said.

As for why EA wants a past-generation version of Star Wars Jedi: Surivovor is obvious; to tap into a still reasonably big market. But with the PlayStation 5 already surpassing 40 million units, it’s hard to see if the time spent on resources will pay off if the game releases in 12 months. After all, Respawn Entertainment currently has its hands full with multiple projects.

Respawn Entertainment is yet to address the concerns online, but if they do, we’ll be sure to let you know.
