Square Enix has announced that it will be conducting a fundamental review of its development processes.
The announcement was made during a financial results briefing on April 5 (thanks Bloomberg), where Takashi Kiryu said the changes would be announced this Spring.
Kiryu said, “We are reviewing from scratch what the organizational structure is to materialize the contents of the pipeline, and what is best.” As for the specifics of the new system, we will announce it this spring”, he said.
As for what these changes entail is mostly unclear, but the change was said to include processes that would streamline decision-making about the quality of work during earlier stages of development.
According to some analysts who attended the call, it’s believed that the new process will come into effect sometime in April 2024.
In November 2023, indications of such a move were said during its financial meeting, where Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu said that the company wants to structure Square Enix’s development “to ensure higher quality from each title by slimming down our lineup”.
Square Enix is set to release Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (all trophies here) on February 29, 2024.
