Sons of the Forest Update: Fixes and New Features Arrive

It was revealed a while ago that Sons of the Forest would launch in an early-access state on PC only, with the developer, Endnight, being eager to avoid any untimely delays. However, as a caveat, Endnight explained that the community would need to provide feedback on the bugs that were almost destined to exist, with the team being poised to tackle them as soon as they surfaced.

In keeping with the transparent release schedule posted on the game’s top page, Endnight has released the first big update for Sons of the Forest. Driven by feedback provided by the community, this update is substantial, and it’s a sign of things to come.

Sons of the Forest has already proven itself to be a remarkably popular game, but things are only going to get better.

Sons of the Forest Update is Substantial

Sons of the Forest looks beautiful – and it’s still being worked on

There were some concerns in the community when Sons of the Forest was revealed to be an early-access game, if only for the reason that bugs and performance issues are more or less inevitable. However, in the first twenty-four hours that the game went live on Steam, Endnight recorded more than two million sales.

It’s safe to say that the fears of the community were firmly put to one side.

And for good reason, too – Sons of the Forest is a beautiful and terrifying expansion on the first game, offering up an enormous map, changing seasons, deeply versatile construction mechanics, and exciting combat opportunities.

Now, the first Sons of the Forest update has dropped, and it’s substantial. There are more than one hundred major fixes and improvements included in the update, as well as a wide range of balancing changes and two-dozen new features. Endnight promised that, over time, the game would be expanded through regular updates, and the team certainly wasn’t lying.

Here’s a breakdown of the key features included in the first Sons of the Forest update.

New Features

  • Added Hang Glider
  • Added Binoculars
  • Added mid-game boss fight in Food Bunker
  • Added door locks
  • Added story elements
  • Added death animation variations for cannibals
  • Added lookout towers to cannibal villages
  • Added new structure type

Balancing Changes

  • Added cooldown for sleeping
  • Tweaked fire drain rate
  • Energy drink gives less hydration and energy
  • Hard enemy health setting reduced to 1.25x health
  • Kelvin will stop catching fish after a certain amount of time
  • Halved shotgun damage
  • Health on ‘creepies’ will be increased depending on the number of players present

At present, it seems that the next major update will drop on the 23rd of March.
