Sons of the Forest was released into early access back in February 2023, and since then, it has performed remarkably well. It has received constant care and attention from its developer, Endnight Games, and it has rapidly risen to become regarded as one of the top survival horror games on the market, surpassing the best-selling first game, The Forest, which was dropped back in 2014.
It has now been revealed that Sons of the Forest will officially leave early access on February 22nd, 2024, a year after it was first released. Not only that but the game is set to receive a monumental update, which includes the appearance of Hollywood’s Shawn Ashmore (X-Men, The Boys, Animorphs), who is stepping in to voice ‘Timmy’ as Endnight fleshes out his role in the game.
What Comes Next?
On Twitter, Endnight Games shared an update that spoke about what they ‘have in store’ for v1.0 ‘and beyond’.
Following a year of solid updates, improvements, expansions, and community-led changes, Sons of the Forest is almost ready to cast off the training wheels and become a full-fledged, fully-released game. It’s a beautiful thing, and it’ll likely bring countless players back to the title that never seems to end. I have personally enjoyed dipping in and out of the game over the last few months – it’s beautiful, terrifying, and at times, absolutely hilarious.
There’s no indication of a console release at the moment, which is a shame for gamers who don’t have access to a PC, but never say never. After all, The Forest (2014) was also available on PlayStation 4, so there’s no reason why Sons of the Forest couldn’t eventually follow suit.
