Slay the Spire 2 has continued to exceed all expectations into the weekend, soaring over the half a million mark and settling on 526,793 concurrent players on Steam, at the time of writing. The game skyrocketed at launch, punching past almost every other game on Valve’s digital storefront with ease.
By numbers, the early access deckbuilder is officially the most-played roguelike to hit Steam ever, and it’s also the biggest single game launch on Steam this year. What’s more amazing is that it doesn’t seem to be slowing all that much.
Slay the Spire 2 is Blasting Out of the Gate
Slay the Spire 2 has launched in early access at a very forgiving price point of just $25, which is a steal for fans of the genre. The game is a follow-on from the first game, which dropped in 2019 and since amassed an all-time peak on Steam of 57,025.
In the time that Slay the Spire 2 has managed to hit half a million concurrent players on the platform, the first title had secured just 14,000 or so.
The ballistic growth isn’t the only amazing thing. Slay the Spire 2 has also managed to rack up a giddy number of positive reviews, pushing it to an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ rating with 97% of all the 9,000 reviews having nothing but nice things to say.
Mega Crit, the game’s developer, published the first title back in 2019, and that made a relatively big splash in the deckbuilder space. It was nothing compared to the follow-up title, though. It’s not perfect, and some tweaks are yet to be made, but that’s why it’s an early access game, right?
