Skylanders Compilation Could Launch in 2023, Leak Claims

Recently, a ‘throwaway’ user took to Reddit to claim that they’d taken part in an Activision survey that directly referenced a Skylanders compilation title. In this survey, a six-slide deck was reportedly revealed that gave information regarding a remastered compilation that would launch in 2023 and would not require the use of the figures that Skylanders became so well known for.

It was around a decade ago that the toys-to-life craze was really picking up steam, with the launch of Skylanders in 2011. It eventually spawned the likes of Disney Infinity, the Amiibo range, Lego Dimensions, and Pokémon Rumble U, among many other titles. Now, it seems as though Activision intends to revisit that success and capitalise on it once again with a remastered compilation.

Could Skylanders Be Swooping Back Into Stores?

Skylanders was always a simple premise with a sensational delivery: NFC-driven figures that would be placed on a portal to appear in a game. It gave way to a staggering collection of figures that spanned six major releases, and far from being a flash in the pan, Skylanders remained popular for years.

It proved to be a massive cash cow, with parents the world over rushing out to acquire every new Skylanders figure for their children, each one opening up realms of possibility with new abilities, in-game options, and the potential to unlock new areas in the game.

According to the alleged survey from Activision, leaked on Reddit, this supposed HD remaster would not launch with any figures, and every figure would be digitally unlocked across the collection of games that Activision would choose to feature. There were expectations set in 2022 that, by the end of the year, a Skylanders or Guitar Hero title would be revealed by Activision – this could be one step closer to that.

In the alleged leak, a slide read:

The SKYLANDERS series is back! Play through Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, Skylanders: Giants, and Skylanders: Swap Force remastered in HD. And for the first time in SKYLANDERS history: no figures required.

There were three potential titles put forward for the collection:

  • SKYLANDERS: Anthology
  • SKYLANDERS: Portal Pack
  • SKYLANDERS: Eons

It has been several years since a brand-new Skylanders title surfaced, so the timing would be right, but as always, take this rumour with a pinch of salt. It would undoubtedly be a huge seller, even with the lack of the figure-driven gimmick, but fans of the franchise were quick to highlight some holes in the reveal on Reddit.

Fans can hope, right?

According to the leaker, the Skylanders HD remaster would launch on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4, and PS5.
