Shopify Rebellion Gold’s meL Steps Away From Competing in 2026

Melanie ‘meL’ Capone, a hugely respected figure in the Game Changers space, has stated on social media that she will not be competing for the remainder of 2026. In an announcement paired with a lengthy explanation, meL stated that her withdrawal from the competitive scene is driven by her ongoing challenges with her mental health.

Speaking transparently, meL revealed a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder and stressed that she’s been undergoing therapy since August of last year.

meL Puts Mental Health First in Withdrawal Move

In an open statement on social media, meL revealed severe mental health symptoms, including suicidal ideation and a complete loss of motivation and self-care. She admitted that just continuing to play at the highest level required immense emotional effort, leading her to constantly mask how she truly felt to keep up appearances.

She explained:

I believe the best course of action is for me to step away from competing in order to give myself the best chance ot repair my mental health. This would also give my team the ability to play with someone who can commit to giving 100%, which I cannot do in this state.

It’s a huge step to withdraw from actively competing for more than six months, but meL believes it’s the most natural course of action. But it doesn’t mean she’s preparing to disappear from the scene entirely:

Not competing for the next six months will be a big adjustment for me. But the silver lining is it will hopefully let me co-stream more often, attend live events, appear on the VCT desk, and take on other opportunities that previously conflicted with my busy schedule. The bottom line is I will remain very active in VALORANT.

The comments under the social media post were laden with supportive statements, with even the VCT team taking the time to respond:
