Sea of Thieves was released on PlayStation platforms on April 30, emerging to a very receptive audience that was glad to finally have the chance to sail the game’s beautiful open oceans. In a recent performance-based update, Sony revealed that through May in Europe and North America, Sea of Thieves was the top downloaded game, dominating several other top-tier titles to dominate the charts.
Plundering the Charts
Sea of Thieves was one of the first games to be rolled out across digital borders, travelling from the confines of Xbox and PC and charting a course to PlayStation platforms. It joined the likes of Grounded, Pentiment, and Hi-Fi Rush, all of which broke free of their exclusivity to Team Green and made the journey to bluer pastures.
In Europe and North America, Sea of Thieves effortlessly topped PlayStation’s digital download charts, beating the likes of Madden NFL 24, Grand Theft Auto V, Helldivers 2, and Stellar Blade. It’s a testament to the power of this open-world, pirate-themed title, which was first released back in 2018 to a positive reception and solid reviews.
Elsewhere in those same digital download charts, Fallout 4 remained strong, hitting ninth place in North America and eighth place in Europe. That’s the tendrils of popularity still clinging tight to the title after the successful release of the Fallout TV show on April 9.
