Size isn’t everything, right? That’s why I love a keyboard with a cut-down form factor, like the Logitech G316 X 75. Fortunately, the G316 X 75 is a perfect representation of what happens when a tech titan isn’t greedy, and packs a stack of technology into a keyboard without asking for an exorbitant sum from the average consumer.
So, you’re getting something small, but you’re also getting something mighty, because size isn’t everything.
I’ve been running around the block with the G316 X 75 to bring you a comprehensive review, and I’ve been thoroughly pleased at every turn with what’s on offer here. It’s far from the lofty heights of the PRO X2 RAPID, Logitech’s all-new and most expensive keyboard, but it’s not trying to be that.
The G316 X 75 Should Cost More
I’ll be honest; when I saw the £89.99 price point for the G316 X 75, I was taken aback. In recent weeks, I’ve been trialling some exceedingly expensive keyboards, such as the Razer Huntsman V3, and at face value, I thought the G316 X 75 would fit more into the higher echelons of the gaming keyboard space.
I mean, it looks gorgeous, first of all. Once you’ve unwrapped the very eco-friendly packaging, you’re presented with a neat little keyboard that has some charming features, such as the alt-colored volume control knob and escape key. There’s a tiny LED display in the corner, an attractive RGB strip separating the key body from the F-keys, and it’s all presented quite nicely at first blush.
The hot-swappable switches, which are perfect for those gamers who appreciate modification potential, are topped with customizable PBT keycaps. I’ve come to learn that Logitech’s keycaps are some of the best in the business, and the G316 X 75 is no different. The touch is smooth and stable, the report is great, and it feels durable.
I mean, I didn’t bend the keyboard over my knee or anything, but it just feels like it could take a knock or two, despite being all plastic. And, like with other Logitech keyboards, the build is made up of almost 50% recycled plastics, so you can grab this keyboard knowing that you’re helping out the environment!
But what are we saying about the technical specifications of the G316 X 75?
This is a mechanical keyboard that accommodates your typical USB-C connection (with USB 2.0 protocol), and it boasts a relatively low actuation force on the keys. It has an 8 kHz report rate at max that makes for lightning-fast response times, features Logitech’s LIGHTSYNC technology, and can be paired with G Hub for deeper customization.
The dot-matrix LED display is a quirky little thing that’s more a nice-to-have than a need-to-have, but it’s another example of why this keyboard feels more expensive than it is.
After a good few sessions with the G316 X 75, I can happily report no qualms. It’s a brilliant mid-tier gaming keyboard that won’t bust your wallet wide open, but you shouldn’t expect it to reach the ambitious heights of something like the PRO X2 RAPID. It looks nice on the desk, has eye-catching RGB elements, and is perfect for anyone who typically customizes their keyboards beyond the stock offering.
