Sony’s Resident Evil film looks to be taking place in Raccoon City, according to set photos. Additionally, it seems to be taking place during winter, if all the snow is an undead giveaway.
Directed by smash hit Weapons’ Zach Cregger, Resident Evil is set to be the next big video game adaptation. With its release on September 18th, 2026, there’s a lot riding on the title in celebration of the game’s 30th anniversary. While we know who’s in the cast, story details have been quite surface-level. What we did know is that it wouldn’t be an adaptation, but take from the games. Well, according to new set photos of the film in Prague, it’s taking a whole city with it.
Raccoon City to Appear in Resident Evil Film, According to Set Photos
In an article from The Prague Reporter, filming has begun on the Resident Evil film in the Karlin district. The outlet was able to get photos on-set and reveals some interesting details about the shoots. For one, it seems the town will serve as Raccoon City, as one photo shows a map of the town and bus decals. Police cars with Colorado plates are also visible, indicating its version will not technically be in the Midwest. In addition, everything is covered in artificial snow, meaning the film will, in some way, take place during Winter.
The outlet also reports that action scenes involving fast cars and explosions were filmed in the area. Residents there were told that filming would take place from 3 pm to 3 am from October 29th to November 2nd. The night is a fairly common element of Resident Evil, so the film looks to go all in with it. Given its upcoming release, we could see more information revealed before the year’s end. Still, the addition of Raccoon City is sure to be of note, given that a majority of titles, like Resident Evil 2 and 3, take place there. Perhaps we’ll see some familiar faces with Leon and Jill? We’ll just have to wait and see.
