A PS5 Version of Xbox’s upcoming exclusive vampire shooter Redfall was previously in development prior to Microsoft’s acquisition of the game’s developer Arkane Austin.
The reveal came from the game’s Creative Director Harvey Smith in an interview with IGN France where he spoke more about the major ramifications Microsoft’s acquisition had on the development game, ultimately leading to the cancelation of the PS5 version.
We were bought by Microsoft and it was a change with capital C. They came in and said, ‘No PlayStation 5, we’re focusing on Xbox, PC and Game Pass.

Arkane previously had previously established a positive working relationship with Sony after the time-loop style shooter Death Loop had major success on PS5 as a timed console exclusive. It’s no great surprise that the team would want to continue to build on the relationship with the release of Redfall before the idea was shut down by Microsoft.
In spite of this, Smith seems to consider Redfall’s exclusivity as the best thing for the title, highlighting that it eased the pressure of the development process by having one less platform to focus on.
Smith also touts Game Pass as a major factor and believes that it could be a major factor in Redfall becoming the studio’s most successful project to date saying:
Game Pass has a ton of players, it could become our biggest game thanks to the 30 million, I can’t remember the exact number of subscribers

Redfall is set to get a Day One release on Xbox Game Pass meaning that subscribers will be able to play the upcoming title for free and at no extra charge. The game has long been promoted as a major exclusive title for Microsoft and is set to release on Xbox Series and PC on May 2, 2023.
What do you think of Redfall being in development for PS5?
