Sony has announced a brand-new software update for the PlayStation 5, which will bring back classic themes to the console, along with the new Audio Focus feature. The upcoming software update will be released in phases, starting globally from April 24, 2025.
PS5 Classic Themes are Returning
PlayStation released a set of classic themes for the PS5 as part of its 30th Anniversary celebrations. These themes were inspired by their past consoles, including the PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. The themes, however, were only available for a limited time.
Since then, PlayStation has received an overwhelmingly positive response to these classic themes on the PS5 and has decided to make them a permanent feature with the upcoming update. The feature is now called “Appearance” and can be found in the ‘Settings Menu’.
PS5 Introduces Audio Focus
Along with the return of classic themes, the new software update also introduces the Audio Focus feature for the PS5. This will enhance the immersion for players by offering presets that ‘amplify soft sounds’ to cater to their preferences. The feature can be found in ‘Settings’, then head to ‘Sound’, select ‘Volume’, and you will find Audio Focus here.
Audio Focus on the PS5 will have four preset focus type options:
- Boost Low Pitch: Amplify low-frequency sounds like roaring engines and rumbling noises.
- Boost Voices: Amplify voice chats, character voices, and other middle-frequency sounds.
- Boost High Pitch: Amplify high-frequency sounds, such as footsteps and metallic noises.
- Boost Quiet Sounds: Amplify low-volume sounds in a wide range of frequencies.
Players also have the option to set the level of support for each preset type, varying from Weak, Medium and Strong. Players can also adjust the levels of the left and right channels separately. Lastly, the feature is also available with headphones connected via USB or analogue jack; however, it is not supported for HDMI connections through TV, AV receivers, or soundbars.
