In a new leak spotted by fans on Reddit, a variety of clips surfaced featuring prototype footage from earlier Assassin’s Creed games.
The clips showcase gameplay from Assassin’s Creed 3, Black Flag, Origins, and Syndicate. It even notes the games’ in-progress titles, such as Golden Age and Victory, for Black Flag and Syndicate respectively.
The clips are fairly brief, with simple scenes like Connor using a mast to infiltrate a ship, or the early UI design in Syndicate. But they still have a familiar sense of style.
Surprisingly, most of these ideas are pretty consistent with the final product. Essentially, it implies that the developers already had a solid handle on what they wanted in each of the games. But the leaks still offer a glimpse at the creative process for both cinematic animation and gameplay mechanics.
This leak should prove especially interesting for longtime fans. After all, these earlier games laid a lot of groundwork for future titles in the series.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is a more recent title, so its prototype footage is less revealing. But its location sync and leap of faith are still a highlight from the leaked clips. The pace of the camera’s panning and the perspective of the backgrounds already seem locked in.
The game launched in 2017 to decent critic reviews. Despite a mixed response from fans, many praised Abubakar Salim’s performance for Bayek. Salim recently founded their own studio, and Insider Gaming had the chance to interview them about its debut game.
It’s also pretty amusing to see Jacob Frye ride their carriage through a totally incomplete environment. But the UI is relatively familiar, if a little less tidy.
