DOOM is a legendary title that still keeps itself in the news more than thirty years after it was released, mainly because people can’t stop playing it through the most bizarre of means. Most recently, MIT students got DOOM running on E. Coli bacteria at a whopping 0.00003 FPS. There’s an all-new way to play DOOM coming, though – and it’ll see you enjoy the id Software classic on the display screen of a robot lawnmower.
Cutting Down Enemies and Cutting Down Grass
During a recent tech event, Husqvarna, a gardening tool company, revealed the intention to port DOOM to the display screen on its ‘Automower NERA’ line, a series of super-smart robotic lawnmowers. In an action-packed trailer, Husqvarna showcased the upcoming feature:
It was subsequently revealed that the update will be available from April 2024 – but not April 1st. That was one of the first things I checked, don’t worry. In a limited-time offer, gamers with a penchant for gardening will be able to play DOOM on their NERA lawnmower between April and September 2024.
Those looking to try out DOOM on a lawnmower will need to use their mobile app to download the game to the Husqvarna device before August 26, 2024. It was stressed by the company that the game will be automatically removed from devices on September 9, 2024.
If you don’t already own a Husqvarna Automower and want to play DOOM on one, you’ll need to invest at least £1,999 ($2499) to pick one up. They’re that expensive – the top-of-the-range model will set you back a whopping £6,000 ($7600).
