It was just revealed by CDPR that Cyberpunk 2077’s only expansion, Phantom Liberty, has sold over five million copies since it was released at the end of September 2023. It’s a staggering number that’s representative of the popularity of the project, which has been hailed by many as the ‘best gaming expansion ever’, going hand-in-hand with a revitalisation of Cyberpunk 2077 that was nothing short of incredible.
Done and Dusted
In September 2023, Cyberpunk 2077 players enjoyed a resurgence of sorts, as CDPR released ‘Cyberpunk 2.0’, a staggering update that changed the face of the game and made it feel like an entirely new project. It was even advised that players should totally restart their playthrough to get the full effect of the update – and the whole thing went hand-in-hand with the release of Phantom Liberty.
As one of the most ambitious expansions in gaming history, Phantom Liberty added hours of new content, a fresh area, countless new weapons, outfits, characters, and an all-new storyline to follow. It saw the likes of Idris Elba come on board to provide acting talents, too – which was a massive hit with fans the world over.
CDPR recently revealed that Phantom Liberty surpassed five million sales since being released on September 26, 2023. Sadly, that’s now the end of the road for Cyberpunk 2077, as CDPR recently pivoted to focus on other projects, such as the in-development Witcher games and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
