PGL Bucharest 2027 has announced its invited rosters, with all the top Counter-Strike rosters set to attend the 16-team event after accepting invitations.
The event, running from January 17 to 24, 2027, directly clashes with BLAST Bounty Season 1 2027, making it a major blow for BLAST’s hopes of attracting teams to its events.
PGL Bucharest 2027 invited teams
The team list for PGL Bucharest 2027 is:
- Team Spirit
- Legacy
- Team Vitality
- MOUZ
- G2 Esports
- Team Falcons
- FURIA
- FUT Esports
- Aurora Gaming
- Astralis
- BetBoom Team
- MIBR
- B8
- Nemiga Gaming
- TBD: Open Qualifier #1
- TBD: Open Qualifier #2
The team list amounts to the top 14 teams in the global VRS at the invite date, based on the October 5 VRS snapshot, meaning no team declined their invitation to the event.
Notable teams to miss out due to their poor standings in the October 5 rankings include NAVI, Heroic, Liquid, FaZe, and Parivision.
The final teams to attend the event will qualify through the two Open Qualifiers for the event, which will run from October 11 to 12 and October 13 to 14, respectively.
BLAST Bounty to suffer poor attendance due to overlap
The strong attendance for the event is a major coup for PGL, which not so long ago struggled to attract the top teams to their events.
All 14 teams attending the event is, however, a huge blow to BLAST, as BLAST Bounty Season 1 2027 heavily overlaps with the PGL event. BLAST Bounty Season 1 2027 runs from January 11-24, making it impossible for teams to attend both events.
The $1,250,000 event is now practically guaranteed to suffer from poor attendance, with the top 14 teams already set to miss it, despite format changes to the event to make it more attractive to rosters and organizations.
In March, BLAST announced that the event would scrap its online stage, reducing the event to a 16-team LAN event in BLAST Studios Malta.
LAN wins are more valuable in the VRS, making online events far less attractive for teams. LAN is also regarded as a more stable environment for games, with fewer upsets as a result, making the online matches particularly disadvantageous to top-ranked teams.
Despite the changes, every eligible team has chosen to play PGL Bucharest, which boasts a Swiss Stage, making it potentially more valuable to teams in the VRS, as teams require three wins to advance and three losses to be eliminated, making the Group Stage footprint larger that double-elimination groups.
With more events set to clash in 2027 and beyond, BLAST is now facing an uphill battle to attract the top teams to its events.
