When is Pearlescent Gear Coming to Borderlands 4?

Randy Pitchford has confirmed that Pearlescent gear and weapons are arriving in Borderlands 4 in Q1 2026—so somewhere between the beginning of January 2026 and the end of March 2026.
Randy and his team discussed endgame & post-launch content plans at PAX West 2025. Toward the end of the presentation and discussion, the Gearbox CEO dropped a bombshell announcement: “Pearlescents are back, baby!”
The official roadmap indicates that ‘Pearlescent Rarity’ is coming in Q1 2026—the first quarter of 2026. It will coincide with the release of Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 2, and anyone can get one straight away from the second the feature drops.
What is Pearlescent Gear in Borderlands 4?
Pearlescent Rarity is the highest and best form of gear in the Borderlands franchise—even greater than legendaries.
This rarity usually never debuts with the main game. It comes later on as part of DLC or free updates further down the line. This is the case for Pearlescents in Borderlands 4.
A piece of Pearlescent gear usually means a cross between a legendary gun or shield (for example) that intertwines with one-off traits and abilities only found in unique gear. Together, they synergize to create the most powerful, lucrative, and most sought-after gear in Borderlands. Gearbox has yet to elaborate on Pearlescents in Borderlands 4, but no doubt they will be worth the chase.
Pearlescent Gear Loot Drop Rate, Explained
Gearbox has confirmed that the drop loot rate for Pearlescent gear in Borderlands 4 will be “less than 1%” when they are added.
Confirmation of this also arrived during the PAX West briefing. “It’s not gonna be easy, the drop loot rates for when they can drop is less than 1%. So, if you get one of these, you’re lucky,” said Randy.
You’d better start praying to the RNG Gods.
There you have it. If you thought legendary gear was as good as it gets in Borderlands 4, you can think again. It’s good of Randy to let everyone know the gear is coming, so it gives more incentive to stick around to grind for the best weapons in the future.
