When playing past Payday games, players have only been able to take part in heists by either going in guns a blazing or as quietly as possible. In Payday 3, there’s going to be a third middle option in the form of hostage negotiation
In its first developer diary on YouTube, producer Andreas Häll-Penninger said that Payday 3 will allow players to negotiate with police over hostages.
“So, in Payday 3 you have stealth and then you have something that we call search. which essentially when guards are looking for you and they’re suspicious,” he said. “And then you have something really interesting, which is called negotiation, so first responders arrive on the scene, and if you have hostages, you can start trading them to buy time before the cops get in, or you can save the hostages for later because you can trade them for resources.”
Payday 3 launches on September 21 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is built and will release on Unreal Engine 4 before moving to Unreal Engine 5 post-launch.
