Paper Rex Hold Unfortunate Record After Valorant Champions Exit

After being eliminated from Valorant Champions Shanghai in the Lower Bracket Round 1, Paper Rex now holds a rather strange record.

According to Reddit user asakanakasa, Paper Rex is the first team to ever finish in every possible placement in an international Valorant tournament.

Fans of the VCT Pacific team have been through quite the rollercoaster, winning Masters Toronto last year and exiting the 2023 São Paulo LOCK//IN.

And now the unfortunate record has been completed as Paper Rex were eliminated by VCT Pacific rivals T1.

Paper Rex International Valorant Placements

Paper Rex finished 7th-8th in Shanghai after giving up a 9-3 half-time lead against T1.

With the remaining eight teams, NRG are slightly favoured by Polymarket users to retain their Valorant Champions title, but it’s close with G2 Esports also fancied.

Paper Rex have now recorded the following placements in international Valorant events:

  • 1st – Masters Toronto 2025
  • 2nd – Champions LA 2023, Masters London 2026, Masters Santiago 2026, Masters Copenhagen 2022
  • 3rd – Masters Madrid 2024, Masters Tokyo 2023
  • 4th – Champions Paris 2025, Masters Reykjavik 2022
  • 5th-6th – Masters Shanghai 2024
  • 7th-8th – Champions Shanghai 2026 (New)
  • 9th-12th – Champions Seoul 2024, Champions Istanbul 2022
  • 13th-16th – Masters Berlin 2021
  • 17th- 32nd – LOCK//IN São Paulo 2023

And it’s unlikely that any team will ever match this record again, with Riot keeping Valorant Masters events to 12 teams and Champions to 16.

While the drastic difference between finishing 1st and 32nd suggests wild inconsistency, Paper Rex actually has a very impressive track record.

The team has recorded nine top-four placements and reached five international Valorant finals, including both of this year’s Masters.

It makes Paper Rex one of the strongest Valorant teams of all time.

What do you think is next for Paper Rex’s roster now that most players’ contracts expire this year? Let us know on the Insider Gaming Discord.
