Nintendo held its Nintendo Direct presentation on Thursday for September 2023, giving us an insight into what to expect over the coming months as we head into the Holiday season. Based on what was shown, Nintendo is looking to go out with a bang as the Nintendo Switch edges closer to the end of its lifecycle, with the ‘Nintendo Switch 2‘ rumored to be showcased to developers during Gamescom. Although there were multiple remasters showcased, it was great to see so many first-party titles from Nintendo and there will be no shortage of great games to play on the system over the next few months.
During the recent Nintendo Direct event, the grand finale was the announcement that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is getting the remaster treatment and coming to the Nintendo Switch. Many players hail The Thousand-Year Door as the best entry in the series, and it still holds up incredibly well almost 20 years later. Like the Super Mario RPG remake, this will be a full release rather than added to the Nintendo Switch Online service. Nintendo announced during the trailer that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be released in 2024, but no specific release date was given.

During the Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo also announced F-Zero 99, a Battle Royale style version of the original F-Zero game from the SNES, similar to what Nintendo has done previously with Super Mario Bros. and Pac-Man. Mario Vs. Donkey Kong from the Game Boy Advance is receiving the remake treatment, the untitled Princess Peach game is now called Princess Peach: Showtime, and the first three Tomb Raider games are set to be remastered.
