Pocket Pair shadow dropped Palworld for PS5 consoles yesterday in 68 countries and regions worldwide, but Japan wasn’t included in the list.
According to the latest post by the Japanese Pocket Pair account on X, the developers have yet to decide on a release date for Palworld’s PS5 version in Japan. They have apologised to the Japanese community and promised that their staff is doing their best to deliver this version as soon as possible.
Players speculate that Palworld’s PS5 version has been delayed in Japan due to Nintendo and the Pokémon Company’s lawsuit against the developers. Nintendo has alleged that the game “infringes multiple patent rights”. Pocket Pair has already responded, stating they are “unaware” of the specific patents they have been accused of infringing.
Palworld, dubbed “Pokémon with Guns,” was released at the beginning of 2024. The game quickly rose to fame, becoming the second-most played game on Steam at the time and attracting over 25 million players.
Palworld is an open-world, multiplayer, survival-crafting game where you use creatures called Pals to do your bidding. Players can use these Pals to fight or work at farms or factories. Players also have the option to sell the Pals or eat them.
In other news, Palworld developers have stated they will not go free-to-play. Also, learn more about the Sakurajima expansion. What are your thoughts on Palworld’s PS5 version being delayed in Japan? Let us know in the comments or our new community forum!
