The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in the United States (US) for June, with sales topping 1.6M units in its first month. It also had the highest launch month unit sales for video game hardware in US history, surpassing the PlayStation 4’s 1.1M units in 2013.
According to the latest sales data from Circana, Nintendo’s latest system was the top console in both units sold and dollars. That comes after months of the original Nintendo Switch falling behind the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in both areas.
On the back of the launch of the Switch 2, video game hardware sales rose 249% month over month for June with sales figures of $948M in total. The success of the console also brought overall year-to-date numbers up by 17% after being down 26% as of May.

The $948M in spending is a record high for the month of June, passing the $608M in spending in 2008.
As far as the other video game hardware is concerned, the PlayStation 5 is still the best-selling console in the US in terms of both units and dollars.
Regarding accessories, June saw sales jump 29% year-over-year to $293M, another June record. That increase was, in large part, thanks to the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, which saw a 32% attach rate to Switch 2 sales. That made it June’s top accessory in dollars.
Prior to this year’s record high, June 2021 had been the best-selling month for accessories when sales reached $247M.
