In a new post on X, Nintendo officially announced that Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club has a release date for August 29, 2024.
Today’s announcement included a very brief trailer, which again featured the titular Emio. However, the grainy footage transitions from the previous teaser into the art style fans might expect to see in-game.
It also confirms that Emio is part of the Famicom Detective Club IP. This classic Nintendo IP originally released in the late 80’s with two memorable games.
Currently, fans can play Famicom Detective Club: The Two-Case Collection, which released in 2021. The collection includes both The Girl Who Stands Behind and The Missing Heir. Both titles currently have strong user ratings on Metacritic, respectively 8.1 and 7.9.
Emio was just rated in Australia last week, signaling that the release date was coming soon. The existing trailer gained an enormous amount of interest from Nintendo fans due to its horror atmosphere and M Rating by the ESRB.
The Nintendo brand is often family-friendly, but its connection to Famicom Detective Club reveals the tone players should expect.
Nintendo recently held a massive direct showcase that lasted about 40 minutes. It revealed many games coming in 2024, though Emio was not among them. Some highlights included Mario & Luigi Brothership, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
