New Civilization Game In Development From Firaxis Games

A new Civilization game is currently in development from Firaxis Games. The new game will be the next mainline title in the 30-year series.

The announcement of the new game comes alongside the news that Firaxis Games Chief Operating Officer (COO) Heather Hazen is moving up to Studio Head. Hazen joined Firaxis as COO in 2020 after being an Executive Producer at Epic Games. Her promotion comes as longtime Firaxis Studio Head Steve Martin steps down from the role after more than 25 years with the company.

In the release from 2K and Firaxis, Hazen says that she is grateful for the chance, and is excited to bring the Civilization franchise into the future with the next installment.

“I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to carry on the studio’s storied legacy, beginning with the announcement that Firaxis is in development on the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise,” said Hazen. “I’m lucky to be working with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world.”

What’s Next For Civilization?

Ed Beach, who has been with Firaxis for over 15 years, will remain as the Creative Director for the new Civilization game.

To date, the Civilization series has sold more than 65 million copies. Civilization VI, the last mainline title, launched in October 2016. Since then, it has gone on to be the best-selling game in the series, according to 2K.

The game recently saw the release of its latest Leader Pass pack dubbed “Rulers of the Sahara”. The new pack features Ramses II, Cleopatra (Ptolemaic), and Sundiata Keita.

As far as a release goes, no details were given.
