NetEase Developing Overwatch-Style Marvel Shooter, It’s Claimed

According to a new report from The Streamr, NetEase is likely working on a 6v6 Overwatch-style third-person hero shooter set in the Marvel universe.

The title was seemingly corroborated by Forbes’ Paul Tassi as being legitimate. Tassi said that “I am convinced the game is likely real”. Known leakers Kurakasis and Miller also vouched for the upcoming project on Twitter.

Kurakasis further suggested the game is titled “Marvel Rivals”, though The Streamr said that it could not confirm that name.

NetEase previously worked on Marvel Super War, a 3D and third person MOBA that’s free to play. The company also developed and published Marvel Duel, a mobile CCG, though players have surely moved on to Marvel Snap.

Following support from multiple sources, The Streamr is likely building trust with fans. But NetEase has not officially confirmed any of these rumors.

The Streamr’s latest report suggests that James Arnold Taylor will voice Magneto in the upcoming Marvel game. Star Wars fans will recognize James Arnold Taylor as the voice actor behind Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Clone Wars.

Taylor’s talent would certainly go a long way. And it lines up with rumors that NetEase’s untitled Marvel project has a much larger budget than previous games.

The Streamr also reported that “environmental destruction is a big part” of the game.

Further, Kurakasis believes that an announcement is coming soon according to a new Twitter post today. They point out that NetEase Connect 2024 would be a sensible time to announce the project. So, fans might look forward to something official in May.

For now, Marvel fans can look forward to Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Marvel Games announced the new title last week, with a 2025 release window.
