MW3 Is Free This Weekend, But Is That Enough To Make You Play It?

There’s a sizeable multiplayer trial that is live right now on Modern Warfare 3. It’s set to run until 1 PM ET on December 18, and during that window, players will get access to a playlist that features nine of the game’s best multiplayer maps and a collection of modes – including the larger-than-life, chaotic mode, ‘Ground War’.

However, there’s a joke going around that even free is too expensive. It’s no big secret that Modern Warfare 3 struck a nerve with many millions of players when it was revealed a few months ago, and even more so when it was finally released on November 10, 2023.

Is ‘free’ enough to entice you to give the game a try?

Is MW3 Worth Your Time?

For a few days, gamers will be able to jump headlong into Modern Warfare 3 to play on maps like Terminal, Highrise, and Afghan, enjoying modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and ‘War’. There’s also a bonus offering of MW3’s Zombies mode on the table, too.

However, given the bad blood that surfaced following the launch of this year’s Call of Duty game, some begrudging fans are sourly stating that they wouldn’t touch MW3 if they were paid to play it.

It’s a risk-free offering, though. If you’ve not yet picked up Modern Warfare 3 and you’re looking to kill a few hours this weekend, it’s not a bad shout. I’m of the standpoint that Modern Warfare 3 offers up a solid multiplayer platform but it’s spoiled somewhat by overpowering SBMM mechanics. It’s also enormous and you’ll need to reserve a fair portion of your console’s storage space to make room for it, even if it is only for a few days.

Are you going to try Modern Warfare 3 this week, or have you already sworn off the game?
