During a new interview with Game Informer, Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler revealed that they have a title and other ideas for a third Ori game.
Moon Studios first launched Ori and the Blind Forest to rave reviews in 2015. But its sequel Ori and the Will of the Wisps was an instant classic that really took the genre by storm.
Today, Thomas Mahler revealed that “I have a title for it already,” and that “I have some ideas.” Naturally, Mahler couldn’t reveal any finer details at such an early stage. More importantly, Moon Studios has not officially confirmed that a third Ori game is even happening.
During today’s interview, the studio’s co-founder Gennadiy Korol also stated that the team is “pretty happy with where it left off.” Longtime fans will agree that Will of the Wisps tied up loose ends in a satisfying way.
However, Korol added that “the only way we would come back to Ori 3 is if we have more to say, more story to tell.” And the Spirit Tree left enough room for that.
If the developers find the right moment of inspiration, Ori fans might still get another entry in the iconic series. And waiting for a proper follow-up would be worthwhile, to meet the established standards of the previous games.
If Moon Studios already has a title, that means a central theme and direction could already be in place. After all, the previous games also reference key ideas in their titles.
For the time being, Moon Studios is concentrating on their ambitious action RPG No Rest for the Wicked. It was first announced at The Game Awards 2023.
It also takes a very different direction than Ori, both in its visuals and mechanics. No Rest for the Wicked launches into Early Access next week on April 18th.
