Does Monster Hunter Wilds Have Denuvo? – Answered

Whenever a new game is announced, a vocal part of the gaming community immediately delves into detective mode to uncover any and all mentions of DRM. I don’t blame them, of course. DRM is generally never a good thing, as cracks happen too frequently and too fast anyway, and genuine consumers suffer in return. With that in mind, does Monster Hunter Wilds have Denuvo on day one?

Will Monster Hunter Wilds Include Denuvo Support?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but yeah, Monster Hunter Wilds includes Denuvo on day one. You can check the game’s Steam store page or look at the screenshot below, where you’ll find a note on the right-hand side in yellow-brown that indicates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-tamper. The DRM is notoriously bad, with countless players reporting game performance woes whenever it’s a part of the equation.

In the past, Capcom has performed a complete 360 on Denuvo, removing the DRM from its games. Most notably, they removed Denuvo from Resident Evil Village. Unfortunately, that was years after the horror game’s launch. The studio will unlikely change its mind about DRM in Monster Hunter Wilds—at least for now.

What is Denuvo DRM?

If you’re relatively new to PC gaming or don’t keep up with industry trends, welcome. Here’s a little overview of what Denuvo is and does.

Denuvo Anti-Tamper is digital rights management (DRM) software that supposedly protects video games and other software from cracking and pirating attempts. However, it usually doesn’t take long for someone to crack through its shell.

There are reports from the gaming community that Denuvo reduces in-game performance and limits modding potential, though it’s inconclusive. Most importantly, Denuvo requires online verification when downloading and updating games, changing out hardware, and occasional periodic verification checks to ensure you’re running a legit copy of the game. These checks prove problematic for players with poor internet connections and can prevent them from playing altogether.
