Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Plot Walkthrough, Ending & Post-Credits Scene, Explained

The rebooted MW saga has been wrapped up with 2026’s Modern Warfare 4. I’d go as far as saying the overall storyline supersedes the original. A lot happens in Modern Warfare 4’s story and campaign, so here’s a quick runthrough of events.

I’ll chronologically bullet-point the key events of the story to give you a quick rundown of MW4’s campaign, and it will include significant deaths and the ending.

Buckle yourself in:

  • South Korea is hit by a widespread EMP device.
  • North Korean forces invade and attack.
  • It’s revealed that a man, known only as ‘The Archer,’ is the Russian Defense Minister and is in charge of the Konni Ultranationalist PMC, and he pushed for this war.
  • Meanwhile, John Price (Captain Price) has located Milena Romanova—the financier for Konni—and infiltrates a nightclub to reach her.
  • Price gets what he needs, kills Romanova, and chases Makarov, who’s working with her and Konni.
  • After a chase, they have a fistfight, which Price wins, and Price ends up killing Makarov.
  • Price is then taken in by the Las Almas Cartel, and their leader is the returning Valeria Garza, who coerces Price to help Garza deliver a package to The Archer, allowing Price to reach him.
  • In Paris, Shadow Company, led by Phillip Graves, attempts to intercept the package, resulting in the deaths of countless civilians.
  • After a final showdown, Price eventually kills Graves after Graves tries to talk the former Captain out of his new path of vengeance.
  • Back in North Korea, Ri Seung-Ho becomes the country’s new Supreme Leader, whereas his sister, Commander Ri Ju-Young, executes a defector and burns down a whole village—Lieutenant Ko Jin-Hyuk is warned by the defector that Ju-Young is up to no good.
  • Ju-Young, Ko, and Seung-Ho meet The Archer, offering support to a North Korean invasion of South Korea: The new Supreme Leader is unsure, but his sister, Ju-Young, is more than supportive—remember the defector’s words?
  • Task 141, featuring Ghost & Gaz, clashes with the Las Almas Cartel, and Ghost and Gaz end up fighting Price, with the captain’s former allies needing to bring Price in for his crimes, whereas Price is blinded by his hatred and desire to kill The Archer.
  • The Cartel captures Ghost and Gaz. Price plays along as a captive as The Archer meets Valeria in monetary exchange for another EMP device.
  • However, The Archer has already anticipated the double-cross, kills Valeria’s team, and The Archer kills Valeria before taking Price, Ghost, and Gaz as prisoners.
  • Heading back to North Korea, Ju-Young betrays her brother, with The Archer, and kills her brother, Seung-Ho, to become Supreme Leader.
  • Lieutenant Ko Jin-Hyuk defects to join and help the South Koreans.
  • We cut to a captured Gaz, Ghost, and Price, where The Archer informs them Task Force 141 will be framed for the murder of the former Supreme Leader Ri Seung-Ho—The Archer sends a message to Ghost and Price by fatally shooting Gaz in the back of the head.
  • Price and Ghost escape, but Price helps get Ghost to safety. The Archer captures Price again, and The Archer reveals he is Makarov’s father and that the EMPs are only the beginning, as a Russian invasion of Europe is planned.
  • Whereas the South Korean force, with the help of Ghost, storms the Korean Presidential Palace, and the new Supreme Leader Ju-Young is eliminated.
  • Finally, Ghost tracks a convoy carrying The Archer and Price, attacks it, which results in the vehicle flipping off-road, and Price is greatly wounded in the aftermath.
  • Ghost tells Price to go after the also-wounded Archer, and Price kills The Archer as his final act.
  • We end with an emotional scene between Price and Ghost that ends in a peaceful resolution.

How Does Modern Warfare 4 Campaign End?

The MW4 campaign ends with Captain John Price finally killing The Archer, who was pulling the strings behind the whole operation, and Ghost essentially forgiving Price for his Nomad behavior, before Price succumbs to a fatal wound.

Is There an After-Credits or Post-Credits Scene in Modern Warfare 4?

Yes, Modern Warfare 4 has a post-credits scene, where CIA’s Kate Laswell reluctantly deletes all files on Gaz, Ghost, and Price, and essentially removes all references to Task Force 141 from the world, leading us to DMZ.

This is the post-credits scene, thanks to Dan Allen Gaming!
