MKOI Shock BLG on Day 1 of the LoL Worlds Swiss Stage

The LEC’s Movistar KOI (MKOI) have caused a major upset at the League of Legends World Championship (LoL Worlds) 2026.

They defeated the LPL’s Bilibili Gaming (BLG) on Day 1 of the Swiss Stage in a tense 39-minute best-of-one.

This battle between the two regions’ second seeds was the first time MKOI won their first match at a Worlds tournament.

MKOI now join LCK behemoths Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports in the 1-0 bracket.

Birthday Boy Supa Stars On The LoL Worlds Stage

Despite losing the LPL final, BLG were considered by many to be one of the tournament favourites at LoL Worlds 2026.

BLG won two out of three LPL splits and international gold at First Stand earlier in the year with two of the best Chinese pros ever, Chen ‘Bin’ Ze-Bin and Zhuo ‘Knight’ Ding on their roster.

Yet the MVP of this best-of-one was MKOI’s Spanish ADC David ‘Supa’ García.

BLG support Luo ‘ON’ Wen-Jun got his comfort pick of Seraphine, which he had a 20-1 record on, yet MKOI’s bot duo dominated.

A flash forward to make sure his Ezreal Q hit earned Supa First Blood on Park ‘Viper’ Do-hyeon during two early kills for MKOI.

And what happened next was even more surprising. MKOI showed restraint and good macro with their lead.

As BLG started Void Grubs, MKOI pretended to challenge before peeling off and taking first turret in bot and mid turret while their opponents grouped.

Throughout the match, LEC caster Andrew ‘Vedius’ Day mentioned MKOI’s tendency to throw.

And it looked like that was about to happen. With Mountain Soul and Baron, MKOI got a good base siege.

But a Teleport flank capitalised on Supa’s lack of mana, giving BLG three kills and Elder.

The game reached a tense stalemate, but again MKOI showed remarkable composure at the final Elder fight.

They slowed down, used Ezreal to poke while Joseph Joon ‘Jojopyun’ Pyun stopped flanks and removed wards.

Then Supa found a triple kill and earned a huge win for MKOI and the LEC on his 26th birthday.
