Marvel’s Wolverine is now available worldwide, featuring a star-studded cast that includes video game royalty Troy Baker in the role of Nathaniel Essex.
While everyone knows Wolverine, those not as familiar with Marvel may not have much of an idea about Nathaniel Essex, who Insomniac Games deployed in a huge role in the title.
If you want to know more about Troy Baker’s mysterious Nathaniel Essex character, Insider Gaming has a breakdown for you.
Who is Nathaniel Essex in Marvel’s Wolverine?
Nathaniel Essex in Marvel’s Wolverine is an ally of Logan, who saves him from an isolated and feral life in the woods and recruits him to the Essex Institute.
The Essex Institute acts as a safe haven for mutants, who live in hiding from humans, while also acting as the hub of a Team X, tasked with locating and protecting mutants, which consists of Wolverine, Sabertooth, and Mystique.
As the game progresses, however, more details about Essex’s plans come to life, and he starts to transition into his more familiar namesake, Mister Sinister.
We won’t provide any deeper details about the game’s story and how the characters’ relationship with each other evolves, but if you know who Mister Sinister is, you may have an idea of where things are heading.
Who is Minister Sinister in Marvel?
Mister Sinister is the more familiar moniker of Nathaniel Essex, an iconic X-Men villain obsessed with eugenics and desire to engineer humanity into a perfect race.
Debuting in 1987, though the first mentions of the character appeared a year prior, he was created by legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont, and boasts a staggering array of abilities.
This includes molecular manipulation, shapeshifting, a regenerative healing factor, longevity, superhuman strength, telepathy, and telekinesis, among others.
Regularly pulling the strings in the background of the X-Men universe, he’s played a part in the creation of Madelyne Pryor, whom he cloned from Jean Grey, and Nathan Summers, who went on to become Cable.
