Marvel’s Wolverine Director Says Online Backlash is a ‘Good Problem to Have’

Marvel’s Wolverine director has responded to the recent online backlash for the game’s gameplay reveal.

Players received a Marvel’s Wolverine preview earlier this month, which showcased several new features of the game, including the Rage Tiers and Combat, PS5 Performance, and more. However, there was some backlash following the preview, with players raising issues with the red scent trail and the Sentinel boss fight.

Marvel’s Wolverine Director is ‘Pretty Used to’ the Backlash

In a recent interview with TheGamer, Marvel’s Wolverine game director Mike Daly addressed the online backlash regarding the game. He noted that Insomniac Games is accustomed to such reactions and considers it a “good problem to have, as it shows that fans are deeply invested. Daly also reflected on his experiences working on the Spider-Man series, noting that even after creating a widely loved game, there will always be some individuals who find something to complain about.

Daly emphasized that the development team’s goal was not necessarily to address players’ complaints. Instead, their main focus is to create the best possible game for the character. He also acknowledged that the backlash they receive “comes with the territory,” considering that this is not only a first-party game but also centers around a beloved character.

For those wondering, a lot of fans spoke about the linearity of the game, which was something Insomniac had already established: Wolverine wasn’t open-world. Some were also unhappy with the chase scene where Logan goes after people from the Hand, and a red scent trail is visible to help you follow the enemy character. Players thought this was too much handholding. Some also expressed disappointment with the Sentinel fight, saying it lacked innovation.
