Mario Kart World Players Have Worked Out How to Stick With Classic Lap Format

Mario Kart World has shaken things up from the established formula with open-world gameplay, although it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

In online races, the intermission between events involves a long, often barren, drive through the wilderness to reach the next track after a round of voting, which isn’t the most thrilling of drives.

While Mario Kart World has done a great job with connecting all the tracks together, the world in between doesn’t offer too much excitement, and it can be tedious during the intermission of online races.

When a track is voted for, players then drive to the venue, which often takes up the majority of the checkpoints in the race itself, leaving you with just one lap around the actual track itself.

As spotted by GamesRadar, however, players have already worked out a solution to the problem, which moves things back into the standard three-lap approach of previous titles.

Mario Kart World’s Intermissions Are Annoying Players

Rather than selecting a track, players are now voting for the random option to skip the intermission altogether, as, instead of driving to the next venue, you’re instantly teleported there for a three-lap showdown.

A topic on Reddit regarding the subject pleaded for Nintendo to make a change and remove the intermission leg of online races, instead saving that for the new Knockout Mode—where it’s actually a welcome feature and makes a difference.

It’s certainly odd that the voting option is essentially defunct, as you only get to race round the track once anyway, but it isn’t the only way Mario Kart World is raising eyebrows.

The inability to enjoy the Free Roam mode in split-screen multiplayer is also confusing, as it would make the most sense for couch play, but instead, it’s reserved for online lobbies.
