Every Change in LoL Patch 26.17 Including Heavy Vayne Nerfs

Riot Games has revealed the plans for League of Legends (LoL) Patch 26.17 and how they will be buffing and nerfing various champions.

This patch is the follow-up to the update which finally nerfed mages in the bot lane after a traumatic time for much of the community.

However, bot laners still aren’t happy. Riot is keeping mages bot viable and isn’t making any more nerfs to roaming supports.

But what some bot mains are particularly angry about are the heavy nerfs to Vayne because of her somewhat strong win-rate top.

Phroxzon Gives Context to LoL Patch 26.17

Lead gameplay designer Matt ‘Phroxzon’ Leung-Harrison has given further insight into Riot’s decisions around the meta.

He claims that Riot has been happy with the decrease in roaming supports from the small sample of pro games on 26.16 and hopes that will trickle down to solo queue soon.

However, Phroxzon says they aren’t delivering any further nerfs yet:

“We’ll still continue to monitor this and assess whether stronger swings are necessary, though we don’t want to over-punish regular roaming and a small amount of unconventional roaming strategies is reasonable, so long as they don’t become broadly optimal.”

As for mages in the bot lane, he states “AP bots add to good long-term variety and add a healthy frustration to the role,” but confirmed Xerath is still getting nerfs after performing well bot and mid.

And Phroxzon says the strong Vayne nerfs are because she doesn’t offer enough counterplay top, so Riot wants to weaken her laning phase.

“For Vayne top specifically, she can be a combination of tanky (with Experimental Hexplate), with a strong laning phase, while scaling well,” Phroxzon explained before adding that she is at least weak to being ganked.

“This change hopefully results in her lane opponents having slightly more health in order to assist with gank attempts or trade back.”
