Konami has re-registered trademarks for some of its older IPs, such as Soldier Blade, suggesting the publisher may intend to bring them back in the future.
Konami Re-Trademarks Old IPs
Trademarks found from Konami reveal that the publisher has re-registered Soldier Blade, Alien Crush, and Star Soldier, several classic titles released in the late 80s to early 90s. What’s particularly interesting is that Hudson Soft developed all the games, a studio Konami absorbed around two decades ago.
Usually, trademark filings like this are normal and routine to protect classic IPs, but since this is Konami and while this is highly speculative, it could suggest that something bigger is at play. Konami often releases old games or franchises in collections for newer consoles, so any IP the studio is willing to protect for so long instantly becomes a contender for revival next.
All three trademarks contain 09 and 41 classifications, which protect them as video games and game services, respectively. The wording in the goods and services is typical of modern games, which you don’t often see for retro trademarks.
Another thing to note is that Konami has renewed the original entries of these trademarks for a long time in most regional patent offices. The new filings have only appeared on Euipo, which could be due to differences in legal proceedings there. For example, the USPTO filing of Alien Crush has been live since 2009, and it was renewed in 2021.
So, why would these trademarks be contenders for a revival? The strongest case we can make is that they are all from the same era and studio, and that they were filed on the same day. Konami did something similar with Mystical Ninja, which was re-registered in 2025, and a collection of this series, Ganbare Goemon Daishugo!, was released just a few months ago.
The trademarks for Soldier Blade, Alien Crush, and Star Soldier could mean Konami has re-release plans, but since trademarks don’t directly indicate release timing, we’ll have to wait a while to hear more.
